    Default Semipalmated Sandpiper

I hope I have the identification of this bird right. Please correct me if I am wrong. Photographed at Varadero beach in Cuba two weeks ago.

    Zoltan:

Your great low shooting angle gives a very intimate feel to the image, but the ridge of sand in front becomes a distracting element for the same reason. Lower is not always better. You can probably downplay its impact a bit by reducing the luminosity slightly.

Like the sharpness of the bird, sand on bill, catchlight.

    Look forward to more.

    Cheers

I think I'm more tolerant of additional natural elements in an image than many, but I agree with Randy on the foreground. On the flip side I really like the little sand covered piece of vegetation under the bird's chin. I also like the sand on the bill.

FYI, the bird is a juvenile Sanderling. It's aged by that nice black and white checkerboard pattern on the back and wings.

Real nice shot. I like the low shooting angle but I do agree that in this I think a higher pov would be better. Love the pose and head angle. Well done.
