Unlike the ones in Florida, the Double-crested Cormorants are VERY skittish around here. This summer we were lucky to encounter an extremely approachable juvenile. When I saw the sky I wanted a shot with it as the BG so I took this shot with that in mind. Taken in harsh light, but this was one opportunity to not pass up!
I like this a lot, Daniel, particularly the unusual setting, angle and sky. You mentioned the light, maybe some S/H could bring out some more details in the shadows.
I like this very much, the bird looks almost thoughtful here! But somehow, personally I would lose that OOF ground on the right side. The blue sky with cloud is excellent too. :)
Cool image and very unusual to see in such a location. Nice change of pace for us Floridians.
I would not lose the OOF BG. I like the composition as is. The bird does look thoughtful and have a lot of room in the front with the small OOF hill in the BG makes it look like he is contemplating what is going on over there. I am not worried that he is turned a bit away from you here as that strengthens the idea he is thinking about something off in the distance.
Hi David, I love the sky but the bird's awkward pose and the slight--almost imperceptible--shadow on the face take away from the impact for me.
later and love, artie
