Default short-billed (?) dowitcher on mudflats

An early morning shot. Tide was going out hence the ripples in the muddy sand. I am pretty sure this is short-billed but not 100% positive.

Wonderful shot, Allan. I love the walking pose and the coloration of bird and sand. I would probably go with Short-billed but not sure I can really tell the difference. Either way, nicely done.

I really like the little sand dunes and the walking pose. The water in the foreground is very nice as well. The beige and soft blue colors make this image a keeper. TFS,

Let's just simply call it a dowitcher. Nice walking pose. Sharp, well exposed, and I love the mimi dunes in the sand. I'd eliminate the faint OOF whitish patch touching the bend in the leg.

Love the sharpness, the exposure, the walking pose, the low angle and dune sand environment. Lovely image!

It is a worn juvenile short-billed. Juvie long-billeds should be arriving any day but they stick to fresh water most of the time. They are much darker gray overall even than worn juvie short-billed like yours. The tertials of the young long-billed are edged narrowly rufous but lack the internal markings seen on this bird. All as in Shorebirds; Beautiful Beachcombers.... Like the raised foot walking pose and the little sand mounds.
