Had another fun time with my beloved gulls a couple of weeks ago (I think only Artie photographs more gulls than I). Thought I'd try some silhouettes as they flew past the setting sun. I have one major wish here (to go with the few minor ones)...wonder who can guess it first?
Canon 7D + 100-400L @190mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/3200s., f/7.1, ISO 400, handheld, cropped for comp and to eliminate additional gull at left, shadows darkened in post.
Well, my guess is, you would have liked the feet to hit the ground.
I like the colors and the landing pose.
A bit more room at the top if you have it, would be nice.
Lovely image, love the golden color and great pose...Missing primaries are im sure something that bugs you but a minor thing for me, but I do know your high standards.
Thanks all. All good guesses, but Gail got it...with the wind coming from left and front the gulls were landing angled away from me. I guess it looks more subtle than I thought, but I do wish the wind had been at my back that evening.
Daniel, really nice shot. loved the wing position. Although the gull is pointing away from you, since it is a silhouette, I dont think it matters much. The ripples add a lot.
No matter the wind direction it would be hard to beat this spectacular pose and the killer SILH light and the light coming through the wings...
Funny things is when I saw this thumbnail I said, "Dan."
