Great capture of behavior! I really like that you can see the eyes of both birds and they are looking at each other. I also like that the wing position of each bird is similiar, creating an interesting pattern. I wish the green leaves and branches could magically disappear and allow the interaction as white vs. black and large vs. small.

Amy, excellent whites on the egret, together with the breeding colours. Good use of flash, very subtle, and well timed to capture the flared wing. The grackle looks like its just been knocked out.

That made me LOL looking at the egrets expression. Great timing on the capture and nice light on that beautiful egret

Very cool interaction shot. The wing detail is so lovely on the egret that I almost wish the grackle wasn't there (although I do realize that it is the action you want to portray!) I like the black/white/big/small thing going on in the picture. Well done,
Gail

One heck of a shot. black blacks and white whites and details in both....very nicely done. the symmetrical wing positions are great. dont mind the leaves...like them infact as they frame the action on two sides and aren't blurred in a distracting way. breeding plumes add a lot as well.

Nice action captured Amy. The Egret alone is a stand out image, great exposure, detail and love the breeding plumage and colours. I also like it with the foliage.

Wonderful action shot, Amy!!! You are great at capturing action. And I am so impressed with the exposure mastery you show here, with a white white bird and a black black bird. Great job!

Thank you all for your wonderful comments! Melissa, I have the fill flash to thank- it actually fired at the perfect time and to my luck with the best of the lot! The other images in this series did not fair as well.

That is pretty wicked with both birds sharp and the egret looking right at the little guy. And a nice wing position on the grackle; looks as if it is recoiling in fear!

That's a lovely interaction shot! I like it! Looks like the flash saved this image as it made it possible to see nice detail in the grackle - well done!
