I took this image at the Viera Wetlands mid afternoon. I have hundreds of Egret photos and now trying to capture an image that is on the more artistic. I appreciate you feedback and critique on this image.

    Camera - D300
    Lens - Nikon 500mm manual focus f-4
    ISO - 200
    Speed - 1/1600
    f-stop - f-10
I captured this image resting my 500mm lens on a beanbag that was setting on my car window.

I like the vertical composition and the open beak with the tongue visible. The perch is very unique. What is it?
Good look back pose and I like the fluffed up neck feathers. I am not sure about the shadow of the beak against the plumage and the very harsh light. Harsh light makes the whites a bit hot,

If this image had been made at 7:00AM , it would have been lovely!

Gail, Gail thank you for your feedback. The Great Egret is setting on top of a dead palm tree. I agree this photo would have been a softer image in the early morning light or a cloudy day. Arnold

Gail raised many good points. I also wonder if the head could use another round of sharpening and if you have it, a bit more room on the bottom to provide more space for the stretched out toes.

Hi Arnold, Gail and Nancy makes some great points here. Hope you do not mind I took the liberty of sharpening him a bit. Quick job using lab colors and only sharpening the lightness channel or the BW. Like Gail mentioned of it was 7 am would be a sweet shot. TFS

    Gary.
