I spent an evening with these beauties a while back at Brian Picollo Park. Most of the time lying on the ground at the burrow entrance. This beauty was playing sentinel and keeping an eye on me from this nearby perch. This image created late afternoon.

What a beauty. Looks some cloning overlap or something on the talon of the upper foot.

Perhaps a little tight in the frame (at least left and right). Good lighting, and the vertical comp was a good choice. As Jim points out there is some "haze" on the upper talon. The eyes look great!!

Nicely done but for the errant cloning.... Love the eyes and the stare. Who put up the perch? Was it taped to one of the stakes or the crosses that they use?

Nope, Artie, Mother Nature did it all by herself. This was a dead snag in the park. Just a fortuitous situation for me. The talon is an easy fix as the branch I cloned wasn't even near (I just had the stamp too big - wanting to get it done quickly). I'm not sure about more room, I like the way this beauty is framed by the lower branch and where the eyes end up in the frame. Is this truly too tight? And why?

Hi David, Thanks for the info. They rarely perch that high. BTW, we often tape an attractive perch to either the cross or one of the posts around a nest. The birds often take to them right off the bat.

As far as the subject is concerned, it is a sharp image with lovely details. no nits on it.
but overall, when i look at the image, the background blue colour does not gel well with the brown owl. the cool background & warm subject somehow not going well in this case.
but this is purely a matter of personal opinion.
