    We found this Bateleur (our first decent sughting in 3 years) whilst walking in the mpoane, I used a handy stump to steady the lens.

    Taken in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, 3rd September 2011.

    EOS 1D MkIV

    500mm F4 IS + 1.4 x MkIII

    F8. ISO 800, 1/2500, EV +0.33

    oh my. excellent shot.
    i feel the space on top is on extra might want to reduce.

    loved that heart shape wing pose.

    I love how close you were able to get to this guy and how low to the ground he was for you. Love the fluffed up pose. My only nit is the shadow across his face. Good IQ and great details in the blacks. Well done,

    Ken, excellent exposure on the bateleur, sharp, and love the shape of the wings. How is Hwange these days? Havent been there since 1980.

    Nice detail in the feathers. I like the eye contact here. I agree about the extra canvas up top. Are those branch shadows across the face ? Nice coloring in the lores around the beak.

    Cute little pose for a killer :). Yes to a top crop. Easy enough to lighten the face shadows that are distracting. Sharp. EXP good.

    Thanks for your comments I agree that the space on top is far too much.


    I presume shadows come from other branches, I do not find them too distracting.
