I rarely get them in the water.
    They look much nicer.

I love that BG colour - great eye contact and I like the ripple. Is there something happening on the water underside of the base of the tail? Just a shadow maybe? looks like a clone mark. I may take those highlights specs on the legs out. Very nice overall TFS.

Dan, another gorgeous image, and one of my favorite birds. Is the brown of the bird true to your perception at the time? He's a little darker brown than I usually see. That BG color is fabulous -- gives the water a molten look. Agree about the specular highlights on legs.

Killer reflection of the green on the water.
The color of the bird is a bit off, perhaps from being in the shade. The whites are more blueish.

I looked at the photos again, I just go with auto WB and don't really think about it until someone points it out.
Thank you, I adjusted the color, it is now "Killdeer in Golden".
I also addressed the spectacles on the legs.
    I appreciate the comments.
The bird was in the shade.

This is one of finest capture of Killdeer...

Nothing much left to work except minure things.

    1. White's on breast looks little reddish blue so i corrected it.
    2. two three spots cleaning on ripples
    3. i find the 3:2 better chopping top from that ratio.

    And here's result

    Thanks mital, it looks nice.
I can't believe how fooled I get by color balance!
I got lucky this evening, a pond right by my office and I got dozens of photos like this.
I usual only see them on the mud flats, never in water.

Agree with Mital's water cleanup, and I like the bird a lot better. Nice job on the legs, but I hate the loss of the emerald. Any chance of shifting the yellow and green in ACR with HSL/Grayscale hue adjustments to recover your emerald? Or you could even do it in Photoshop Hue/Saturation, since those particular hues aren't likely to be in the bird, and could be masked if necessary. Sometimes you just can't win, but that's one beautiful bird. If you hadn't teased me with the emerald, I'd probably be thrilled with the gold.

Excellent pose and sharp details plus the nice BG. you nailed it. I think the original was a bit too cold and the repost is a bit too warm/magenta, somewhere in between is the best IMO.

    Dan,
Your image is lovely (repost) and I like Mital's work as well. I have never been able to get a shot of a killdeer in a nice environment so Kudos to you for finding this guy in a beautiful setting. Nice pose and low angle. In your repost I would clone out the "dents" in the ripple as Mital has done,

    Dan:

As mentioned, very unusual to see them in water, and it shows him off well.

Agree about the color balance, somewhere between the two, although I do miss the emerald of the original water.

    Excellent head angle, sharp.

    One of your best!

    Cheers

I also struggle a lot with color balance in such situations. You are right...one doesn't get to see many shots of Kildeer in such clean nice water. details are stunning here....absolutely loved those ripples.

I liked Mital's crop. By taking some off the top, the shooting angle seems lower and the ripples catch more attention. If you have in orig, I am thinking a little more space at bottom and right might make it even better.

Amazing water against the red of the eye. Really cool. Geez I must have the same problem cause your original post was amazing to me ,then I saw your repost and said Oh yeah OK, then I saw the final and realized I need to study these things longer. Great image

Lovely image! Sharp with excellent detail and BG. Here is a repost with a colour balance adjustment, selectively reducing the blue from body and boosting colour saturation. Also got rid of second catchlight and a slight crop.

Ofer, yours is the best of all of them, including mine.
You kept the whites without sacrificing the emerald color.
I have never had such a hard time with the colors as these photos.
Thank you for taking the time.

Wonderful. OP was beautiful, and Ofer's repost makes for a truly killer Killdeer image.
