These are my favourite raptors. If you are patient during the summer months at the sweet water holes in the Kalahari, you will be rewarded with wonderful raptor sightings like this one I took of an immature bateleur eagle at take off from Polentswa wasterhole, Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. The camera details are as follows:
    Canon EOS 1Ds MkIII
    Canon EF 500mmf4 LUIS lens
    Shutter speed 1/800
    Aperture f7.1
    ISO 200
    Exposure compensation +0.7
    Time taken 1.37pm
Image was converted in camera RAW and edited in CS5
    Any comments and advice welcomed.

    Hi Mark,
I love the wing pose and the eye level view. Light was pretty harsh and I find there is too much wing blur for my taste. Why was your SS only 1/800? The head is tack sharp which is great. What is the little white oval thing just below the near wing? A bug? Would clone that out and decrease brightness in BG,
    Gail

You did fairly well with harsh light/poor light angle and that is a good trick.....

Pretty wild pose, but agree, pretty harsh light.

it's a great pose but unfortunately light was too harsh and head details did not come out.
