"A photographer is only as good as the equipment he uses, and a good lens is essential to taking good pictures! Do any of our facebook fans use any of the NIKKOR lenses? Which is your favorite and what types of situations do you use it for?"
I'd love to read your post on that thread, but at over 3500 responses I don't think I have time to wade through them all!! I'm sure that it was succinct and to the point .......
As a general statement I agree with your assessment, but if it were never true, why doesn't everyone here sell their gazillion dollar supertelephotos and big bulky DSLRs and buy a much cheaper super zoom P&S? After all, the top bird photographers should be skilled and get great action images with a superzoom P&S, e.g. one of those 840+ mm equivalent cameras.
Clearly, for some types of photography, like action (sports or wildlife), equipment does make the difference. For low light photography, one can make similar claims, but for general photography, even a low end P&S can produce wonderful images in the hands of a master photographer.
So, it all depends on what one is trying to do.
But conversely, great equipment, does not make a great photographer, but that was not the statement.
Roger, agree with much of what you say but for me this statement 'A photographer is only as good as the equipment he uses' is perhaps too blunt to be accurate, because a great photographer will make my humble equipment sing whereas I make it plod along. One of the problems companies the world over have, trying to get their message across in a few short words or sentences, as it often leads to misinterpretation. But a fun FB topic just listening to how cross people become.
"A photographer is only as good as the equipment he uses" - I think that anyone who really believes in this statement will never be a great photographer regardless of what equipment he/she is using....
