    Default Rounded Rattler

Tripod-mounted Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens, 25mm Extension tube, the 1.4X III TC and the EOS-1D Mark IV. ISO 1600. Evaluative metering +2/3: 1/60 sec. at f/5.6 in Manual mode. I placed the tube on the lens and the TC on the camera for a bit of extra close focus but doing it that way you lose AF so I needed to focus manually.

I started with Fractalius's Rounded pre-set on its own layer and did lots of fine-tuning to get the look that I wanted. The image was then tweaked in Photoshop. The snake's original eyes were revealed by painting away the Layer mask that I created (on the Fract layer).

You can read the story of (and see) the original capture (Watch Your Step...) here and see a Glow 100 Fract by scrolling down here.

I love this one! The filtering and the revealed eyes are super.

Very, very nice fract. I love how the rounded pre-set works for reptiles. Great base image too!

Read the story of the shot, can't imagine that snake staying there that long, good for you! Like the first post best on your website..as this one above. I can see that you were using OOTB techniques here, but looking at your website, I have to say I like the 'real' one best.

I have been to snake areas all over the southern US, never seen a wild rattler or snake. I am jealous. A good idea to use original eyes, nice use of effects.

    Hi Art,

I've been up close and personal to one of these guys, in the hills in CA. They are loud!, and they look just like that..........Art, that face and those eyers are splendid. Great filter treatment, perfect head position in the frame. Love the BG coiled body, ready for the strike. Man, this brings back memories, of the not so pleasant kind. Wonderful capture!, excellent presentation.
