    Default BITE ME

Not sure if Pelicans are considered shorebirds for the theme? I was on my way off the beach, near noon when I saw these two Juvenille Pelicans playing . They were very amusing and I maged to get 5 frames , two of which I liked. I love how you can see that front hook thing has caught the others flesh. It was pretty harsh light, so I had to work on it a great bit and i'm hoping I did OK.

Cleaned up the surf a little about 90% of full frame.

    C&C Always Thanks

    Cheryl:

Really fun interaction here. I love the colors and veins in the pouch. You did a good job combating the harsh light. There is a subtle feel of old colorized B&W images here.

    Sharp.

The "hook thing" is called the nail.

    Great fun!

    Cheers

Thanks for naming that hook thing for me. I amuse myself sometimes with my own words I agree about the b&w thing. So is a Pelican a shorebird?

Your title and capture made me laugh. I really like the interaction/behavior here a lot. It's fun to see how playful they can be. I think you did a great job considering the noon hour.

    Cheryl:

I am not an expert by any means, but I would call them sea birds as opposed to shorebirds.

The interaction between the two juveniles is great. Love the veins in the pouch of the left Pelican. Must commend you, on the processing. You have controlled the harsh light very well

Very neat picture with lovely interaction. Your PP skills are excellent re:the harsher light.

So glad you drew our attention to that flesh catch, what a neat detail! Great behavior shot, and really nice colors and details. Love learning about the "nail" term.

Nice interaction here, and I like the colours and veins of the "victim's" translusent (sp?) pouch. Good comp.

Yep, pelicans are not "technically" shorebirds...although many are indeed found at or near shore!

Thanks Daniel, do I place them in wading birds on my website or shorebirds? Or something else?

You're welcome! Pelicans are part of another family of birds called "Pelecaniformes" that include cormorants, anhingas, gannets, and a few more...

Waders would include herons, egrets, ibises, spoonbills, storks etc...

Very nice image and lots of good stuff above. Not sure if anyone mentioned it but consider lightening the darker parts of the bird's faces. Where?

YAW. Better. The face of the bird on our left could go lighter still.
