I photographed this preening sparrow during the early morning as coastal fog was slowly dissipating. I had just a tiny viewing hole in the vegetation. I liked the feeling that this little bird had his early morning routines just like the rest of us!

    Canon 1D Mark IV, Canon 400 f4 DO IS, 1/1000, f5.6, exp. comp. +1/3, ISO 400

    All c & c most appreciated.

    Nancy,

you have captured beautiful morning routine here. good that you were on good side of light and the bird gave you its shy look.
If you have cropped this i might want to see more room on right and chopping about 1 inch from bottom might not hurt to reduce the hefty perch power.

More on editing you can eliminate the ULC green leaves part matching bg.

    AIA i loved this frame.

Really nice shot, Nancy, like the BG, sense of habitat, sweet diffuse light. Great preening pose with eye contact.

Nice preening pose on this dishevelled fella. Too bad about the OOF twigs in the FG. I'd keep the leaves in ULC but would crop down from above to 2/3's down the vertical stem jotting up from those OOF leaves.

Thank you for the comments. I'll play around with the cropping.
