Default Owlet in it's designer home

This Spotted owlet was having sun bath outside of it's home on a Sunny day.

This was above eye level in a tree branch with Sky in the background hence +1 EV.

    Canon 7D, Canon 500mm f4+1.4x TC, ISO 320, f5.6, 1/400 Sec, +1 EV.

Not sure if this composition works but couldn't find a better one to fit it's beautiful home :-)

Girish. Bummer on the one eye closed. Looks as if the bird could use a bit more sharpening. Compositionally I would have gone out of the box here by pointing the lens down just a bit and well to our left. Doing so would have allowed you to complete the pleasing wood pattern on our right..... The plain stuff to our left of the hole does not add anything.... Good job with the bright sun optimization; you are good at minimizing harsh light shadows.

Artie, I do have an image with both eyes open. In fact I have images of him with many funny expressions. Thought that closed eye adds to that curious expression.

Here is the one with eyes open and different crop.

Over here it is so hard to get roosting owls to open their eyes that two eyes open is what we look for . I like the new one much better. It just needs a bit more on our right and a bit more pop.

Girish, I feel any owl image with two open eyes will always win hands down against an owl with a lazy eye. Nicely framed in his nest, and I agree seeing more of the RHS would look great.

I much prefer your second post. Truly wonderful. love the intense gaze and those two toenails peeking out. Also love the character of that wood.

Girish the repost is a better image. If you had the time, I would have backed up a bit and taken a vertical shot. the lovely texture of the tree would have added a lot more to the image.....
