I only saw this one bird briefly in a mixed colony of great egrets, cattle egrets and tricolored herons in El Salvador last week. Is this bird found anywhere in the US? What would be the best place to photograph it? Thanks!
Hi Enrique. This looks likea Boat-billed Heron to me. They are not found in the US. I have seen and photographed them in Costa Rica.
Dan is correct. They range from Central America south through to midway down the continent of South America on the east side of the Andies.
Thanks Dan and John. I'll have to wait until I go back to hunt for a good photo of this bird then...
