    Default Katherine Cove

    Another one from my few days up on Lake Superior. I found this interesting pattern from a previous wave and thought it would make a strong foreground element with my wide angle lens down low. After a couple of frames a rogue wave came ashore and washed away the pattern. Converted to B&W with B&W Effects and then tweaked the detail sliders.

    Look forward to comments.

    Hi Andrew;

    I'm really enjoying viewing your series of images from Lake Superior, and this one is no exception. I like the grainy detail and texture of the sand...love the pattern left by the receding wave (I have to tell you though...first thing that popped into my head was, "The Blob" )...love the curve in the shore line entering the image and then receding back out of the image, only for the eye to be brought back in by the line of the horizon....a lot of wonderful compositional elements. I might crop a bit from the top...to just above the first break in the clouds in the center...but that's more personal preference. Nicely done...keep them coming!

    Andrew, I like the B&W version because it really makes the interesting water line stand out, however I think that the color version you posted on your blog is special- maybe just a tiny bit more special.

    It works well in black and white with good contrast in the image and the detail in the sand. I love the composition with the curving shoreline.

    Excellent composition, Andrew. Love the pattern on the sand, the curved shoreline and the sky... beautifully composed. I had to look up the color version on your website and I think both version works well for different reasons. Excellent work.

    Beautiful work, Andrew. Those clouds are amazing. Love the way everything works together to draw the viewer right in.

    Andrew.....i like this...I agree with John and would only crop just a bit from the top. I think I would also try to do some selective burning and dodging to the foreground to give more variation in tone...but thats just me. Nice work!

    I like the b&W version better (I checked out the color one. Interesting also). I like the strong patterns in the sand that seem to me to present themselves better in B&W. A question about the color version. Was the sand really as orange as that???

    Thanks.

    Bob and Mitch, thanks for the comments. Mitch the color one is pretty much the way the scene appeared. I warmed up the scene slightly in the processing, will take another look, but it doesn't look too orange on this end. Thanks.
