I just returned from my final trip to Bonaventure Island, Quebec. The season is done for me and almost done for the gannets who will be heading south in a month or so.
This B/W conversion was my first using the new Topaz BW Effects filter. So far I like what I have seen. By the way, please advise- is black and white OOTB on BPN? I guess I should know this but am unsure and so decide to be on the safe side and post here.
Almost nothing done other than the conversion, a slight crop, NR on the BG and sharpen the subject. After a house robbery, the 70-300L is the only lens I have replaced so far and I did it because it is just so good. The detail in the face and head feathers here are an indication of how good the lens is. Comments welcome!

John,
Thank you for bringing this up since B&W Effects is very popular and many folks have probably purchased the software and are not sure if they can post straight B&W images w/o any other filters. The answer is YES, this is the place to post those images.
I love the killer eye, pose and sharp details. Nice job with the conversion and I like the softer contrast look here.
Beautiful portrait shot John, and wonderful B&W conversion. I love the defined lines and awesome texture of feathers. Somehow I keep seeing the sky blue eye instead of the steel piercing eye you have here. My eyes must be playing tricks with me! Such a beauty and what a wonderful lens you have indeed. more gannets please! Ann
I'm a little late to the party, but I'll gladly add to the accolades...this is very nicely done. Killer eye...it makes the shot IMHO...wonderful pose, great B&W conversion...sharp details in the feathers...wow...just really nicely done. If it were mine, I might take a sliver off the top...but then again, I usually crop a bit on the tight sight! I hope to see more of the gannets from you.
