Took through a opening in bushes, don't know if it works? Thanks for looking, comments welcome.

Hi Craig, the OOF elements in the foreground don't really work and detract from an otherwise pretty nice image. The composition is good but I find the bg very busy. Some pretty hot whites in the stripes due to a slight overexposure. An interesting bird and nice to have a chance to photograph one. Hope you get an opportunity to find this bird in a more open environment.

I like the pose and the sharpness of the head/eye. I agree the foreground doesn't work well. It also seems to have an overall yellow-green color cast. The background doesn't bother me.
Craig, I am really interested in the background of the upper third of this image. Is that just foliage? I see repeating patterns on the left and right, but obviously not from cloning. Were there branches or leaves in the foreground up there too?

Craig,
Love the species, and good comments from above. As mentioned, the foreground and color cast are two things that come to mind. I too have taken shots like this, through foliage and created a bit of a distraction for the main subject. The color cast is something to think about, sunny WB can warm up a picture as well. Kerry, is a color cast specialist and I will ask him to speak to this. This is a great species and I love the bird and perch, keep em coming.
Agree with the OOF elements in front. You have had some great opportunities with the bittern Craig. I like the warm colours but they seem a little hot and the highlights look hot. It would have been ideal if the light had been coming from more behind you rather than to the left.
Kerry,What you are seeing is ferns hanging down just in front of the len. I was shooting through weeds, ferns, and bushes. Hoping to frame the subject, but it didn't turn out like I visioned it. Thanks for the comments and interest. Craig
I did a quick edit in hue/saturation lowering the hue in the yellow channel. Thanks for the comments.
