    Default Knock Out Rose

In Fractalius I added a glow treatment to the rose along with an accented edges filter in Photoshop. I also found this fantastic free texture called “brushstrokes” the other day and I felt it would be perfect for my rose. See the link below. I used the soft light blend mode and revealed a bit of the rose from beneath. I know the colors are a bit saturated but I just loved the old world feel and the bright colors mixed together.

Denise, Normally, I wouldn't consider a crop like this.............but you pulled it off. Beautiful warm colors enhanced by the glow. Love the textures, the framing and image design. Talk about in your face! I like the tight crop. Small thing drew my attention, the biggest petal has a bit of what looks like a sheen to it. I would add some texture to it to bring it closer to the velvety feel of the two petals in LLC. Just my take..........Very bold, and appealing image! Did I say I loved the colors!

Jay, It's funny you mention the comp. It is pretty much full frame. I thought about what part of the rose appealed to me and initially the colors caught my eye but it was that one sepal that drew me in. I made that the highlight of my image and that is how I came up with the composition. Thank you for the kind words. I'm ok with the sheen but there is a spot or two on the one sheen mark that I think has to go.

Hi Denise, love the colors and subtle textures. To me it feels like watercolor with pen and ink. Very artistic as always and I don't mind the highlights at all, which do contrast well with the soft colors.

Quite a different angle to photograph a rose but lovely result, soft pastel look, nice composition and textures...looks like that on my laptop (new one coming soon), well done

Crop was the wrong word, COMP is better. Not including opposite sides of flowers is something I rarely do, other than a corner comp. But, it really works for me in this image.

Aptly named, Denise...it is a "knock-out!". The tight comp is very appealing...love the subtle textures and the warm colors...I might blend in those two lighter colored "wisps" coming off the petal in the ULC...just the right amount of detail maintained. Well done!

    Thanks folks, I appreciate it.

Jay, One of these days I'm going to get you to step out of your comfort zone a little bit more and then I think we will see the artist inside you emerge full force.
John, Those wisps I think are part of the texture, I think?? I will take a closer look, thanks.

Denise talks a lot about rear view flower images in one of her books.... Just not sure which one.... Like the rest of you I love the colors and the vintage look. Lady D, did you blend the dark area below and in front of the flower to make it a a bit lighter?

Funny; it looked a bit lighter here. I must have been dreaming or it could be the larger size.

Very creative, Denise, wonderful combination of warm bright glowing color and great vintage texture. Thanks for providing the link. If it were mine, I might darken the BG just a bit more and agree with John, the wisps in ULC, though part of texture might look better blended in a bit. Nicely crafted artistic work, and would be great to see a series in this style.

    Denise,

This a gorgeous composition. Love the saturation and colors (reminds me of my guitar's colors ) along with the added texture.

The sepal along with the yellows and oranges of the center petal draw my attention. I feel the strongly defined "V" formed by the edges of the petals in the LLC competes a bit with the sepal for attention. If it were mine I might try to soften that area a bit. Beautifully done.
