Thought the light would work for the theme - added some PB Oil and Topaz detail

Brendan, I love animals and this cat is a cutie! Very nice contemplative pose. The outstretched legs and feet add interest to the comp. I might evict the tiny sliver of white on the lower edge if it were mine. Nice subtle use of the filter.

A sweet kitty with a simple bg. I love the way cats lie this way. Agree about the sliver.

Brendan, this is all about light, to me, and it is great. Love the highlighted individual hairs on left of the shadow line. Nice pose and well framed with a neutral BG..............I always want to imagine what the animal is thinking, in these kind of images, probably his next meal

Brendan, perfect image for the theme - nice directional light and dark ambiance. Love this pose, we are cat lovers at my house! Subtle use of the effects and muted color palette make this one special.

Brendan, this is a wonderful animal portrait; soft lighting, perfect background, a relaxed, natural pose...Denise makes a good point about the sliver in the LLC...great image!

Thanks very much Denise, Jay, Anita, Kerry & John.

Here's repost without light streak, I still kind of like the streak as part of the chiaroscuro, but it may have turned out better at a more eye level angle. I have some frames at eye level, where the paws were more in full view, but not with that expression.

Denise - I will let Buster know you think he's a cutie. He's a bit of a charmer, and can look quite regal at times.

Jay - I love the simple life cats lead - eat, sleep, look out window, clean, cough up hairball, and repeat.
