This is a first for me - a nuthatch by the feeder. Normally they have stayed in the large poplars at the bottom of the garden.

    All C & C welcome.

Jonathan this is beautiful image with clean bg. colors are good.
I might clone that rain droplet parallel to head on left edge as its just one there. like the diagonal trunk placement in frame. might be a little less on sharpness would have been better.

    Jonathan:

Nice pose, exposure. Like the diagonal perch, it is covered by the DOF. Only small point on perch is its scale compared to the bird. A bit more petite perhaps?

    Eye looks very good.

Sharpness - right on the edge for me, but OK, at least on my work monitor.

Glad you got a new one! Do yours spend most of their time upside down? Mine do.

    Cheers

I noticed the raindrop and the sharpness before I read Mital's comment. I agree with Mital there. I like the clean BG, the pose, and the perch.

What a great bird. I have no acceptable images of the rb nut hatch and I really like this one. BG is lovely and complimentary as well. I'd crop a smidge from the right as I see a bit of broken perch and there is a blurriness to the bottom edge of the perch under the bird's foot. Did you do a repair there?

Good angled pose and perch, and agree the sharpness is right on the edge, but still works as is. I like the lichen on the perch, and he stands out very well against the darker BG.

Nicely done. Sharp, nice pose and posture, EXP good. A bit thinner perch would have been nice but the thick branch is not fatal here.

Gorgeous background, great pose. I also noticed the sharpness at first glance, and might have wished it to be a tiny bit less, but this is an area of great difficulty for me. We have White-breasted Nuthatches on our feeder, both adult and juvi, and I've set up a perch just hoping for a shot like this, but they always fly from tree to feeder and back without paying any mind to my perch. Very nicely done.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, glad you liked the image, I had to smile when I got it because Artie had written recently in his blog about keep on plugging even in dull light - well I did and I got my first nuthatch in the garden. I take you point about the perch being a little heavy/thick I will fix that. Grace you commented upon repair - you are right, in fact most of the bottom right side of the perch had been cloned and patched to hide the holes I had drilled, normally these are not visible but I moved the perch out of the way to take some different images and then along came the nuthatch!
