It has been awhile since I have done some avian photography but I was able to get out this weekend with some friends and had a great morning with wonderful light and some cooperative subjects. I really wanted to emphasize the contrast between the pink and blue colors so I went for the Velvia look in post processing, hope it works.

Hi Don, Good to see you again. Even though I think that this image is level, the upsweep of the water by the bill gives an uphill feeling to it and I think it might be more pleasing if you rotated is slightly ccw. Colors look good. The one negative that I have on this image is that I feel no connection with the subject. He/she is perfectly parallel to your sensor, even the head, and so no eye contact happens and for me this is a real disconnect. Do you have any where the is a eye contact?

Hi Grace, Thanks for taking the time to comment i was worried about the HA but hoped the rest of the image was enough to over come it.

Loverly light and raised foot. I think that a bit of CCW rotation would help. The head angle is (barely) OK; but the bird is angled ever so slightly away from you.... You needed to be a few yard to your left.

Agree with CCW. I am Ok with the head angle and I love the colors. The water "drool" and raised foot really make this a nice image,

Don - really nice image here. Colors are lovely, the water and raised foot add to the image. Good low angle. It was great to shoot with you and I look forward to seeing more images soon.

Great walking pose you captured here. I especially love the water running off the bill of the Spoonie. The blueness of the water sets this bird off nicely.
