The lily pads from the Giant Amazon lilies have always intrigued me...this set was shot with the 100-400@300mm, f/16@1/200. RAW image processed in LR; used Fractalius in PS for the effect. Just a single layer with the filter, lowered in opacity to let some of the detail show through.

Hi John, love the effect and the pads look great too! Not sure, but when looking at the top most pad it looks like it may need a slight rotation? Beautiful work!

John, I like the colors and the composition, and the effects, wonder what it would look like with a frame..but I like framing my images

John: Love the glowing colors and the patterns created by pp. Very nice work! I tried cropping top and bottom to eliminate the black, and liked it better.

John, The slight glow and the colors are fantastic! It does feel like it needs a slight rotation but then if I go to the water line I think it's fine. I might tone down the brightest area of the middle pad just a teeny bit(not all the way) and sharpen the front edge of the front pad just a little.
ps- I like the stacked look and the pattern it creates. These pad images have inspired me.

Thank you all for the comments and suggestions.

Whether to rotate the pads or not was initially a puzzle for me...I think what comes into play is that the pads are round objects floating on a flat surface; if I use the line of the top of the pads as my "level line", the front of the pad that is so prominent at the bottom will be askew; as it is, with the front of the bottom pad level, the tops of the pad seem off-kilter. That, and the fact that the pads are off different sizes, that they aren't aligned perfectly from left to right, etc. makes it difficult to decide where to go with rotation.

Denise, I'll work on toning down the hotspot tonight..and Anita, I'll try your crop idea...good suggestion!...it may help tighten things up and may even help with the rotation issues.

    Thanks again.

I toned down the bright spot on the center pad...sharpened the front edge....tried the crop, but it didn't work for me...and no matter how I rotate the image, something looks askew...this, to my eye, is the least askew of the bunch. Thanks again for your comments and suggestions!

Excellent composition, John. I like the perspective of these layered pads... but it is the lighting that takes it a notch above. Beautiful colors and wonderfully processed

This is just awesome, John! Wonderful light, color, patern, texture, and nicely composed and processed. Kind of holiday colors, repost looks good!
