During my recent trip to Botswana, we came across a kill, and these vultures were coming in from all directions to get their share of the remains.

Stuart:
Warm colors, dangling feet and a different BG than we often see for th vultures.
The challenge in this photo for me is to get enough separation from the vulture and the background. I wouldn't mind the vulture being a bit brighter, so I might try to selectively lighten it without looking unnatural against this background.
I don't think it will take much. The image def. has a 3D feel to it, so just a bit more might turn the trick.
Cheers
Randy
Stuart, excellent idea by Randy on lightening the mid and dark tones in the vulture a bit. I like the BG separation here....well done. superb details and IQ. love those feet.
Sharp with a good EXP. With both wings were flared like the right wing.... Good job by Randy; colors of BKGR are complementary but with it so close to the bird the textures are distracting.... It would require some heavy lifting to blur the BKGR (in terms of making a selection...)

When I receive feedback from three accomplished photographers, I know I have to make an effort to get it right second time around. Here is slightly lightened vulture. Im not sure I can separate the BG further, as it was already OOF.
Super! I love the habitat - glad it is not blurred more than it is. I like the lightened bird of the repost (especially the face), but prefer the darker wing and tail feathers of the OP.
Great complimentary colors and I do think the repost helped to separate the bird. Great detail on the vulture yet I agree with Daniel on the lighting.
Lovely shot! I really like the colors in the image. Repost is excellent and I agree with Daniel re: face being better with lightening. I like the dangly feet as well.
Gail
The repost is perfect to me, and I really like the BG color, different and very attractive to me.
The birds face and body are also sharp as can be.
Fall like colors in my part of the world, very nice.

That's one nice looking bird, Stu, and you've captured him beautifully. I actually like the habitat in the bg a lot. The pose with the dangling feet and sharp head - lovely. The comp works perfectly too. Both versions look good to me.

great light and nice details, I like the pose too pull down the blacks a tad

Great pose...Always difficult to get one with a nice clean BG.
I prefer the repost but still wish that the hill with the bushes were 100 yards from the bird![]()

Nice clean looking vulture, Stu. BG is a bit distracting but nice complementary colours really capture the feel of the African bush and dust. A quick try to increase separation using Viveza2. Control points on the BG to reduce brightness, saturation and structure and control points in the bird to brighten and enhance structure a little.

Thanks a stack Tony. Your version really makes the vulture pop from the BG. See you soon.![]()
