Luminance-blended monochrome blue channel was just the thing to darken the background... a few curves, some trash cleanup, sharpening & slight nr to finish.

    Thanks for looking.

    Cheers,

Michael, this is a beautifully serene image; there's just so much to like. The soft ripples around the grebe; the warm gold and green colors of the more muted reflections...the sharp, mirror like reflection of the grebe...nicely done! If it were mine, I'd be tempted to take a sliver from the top, to just above where the large dark area begins, and maybe extend the canvas to the right a bit...hope to see more from you!

Michael, I love grebes! I like your interpretation but I think I'd like it with more NR and either added canvas or a crop from the rear and/or bottom to make it more of a pano.

Michael, I like what you have done here. A beautiful bird. I'd like to see the bird more towards the lower left of the frame and perhaps clean-up the last few spots that remain. Otherwise lovely work!

Michael, Nice pose on the Grebe and the reflection is a nice bonus. I do see some noise in the BG. I like to include the concentric circles when I can. I like Cheryl's crop idea.

Beautiful Grebe, Michael and like the subtle colors and darkened look to this. I also like Cheryl's crop suggestion, there is still some noise but you may have wanted it there as a kind of texture.

Michael, the pie-billed are the best! Love these little ones. This one looks to be in its first molt? Good suggestions above regarding composition but this is a very appealing image.

What a cute little bird! It looks so fragile! Seeing it amidst the darker colors accentuates the fragility as well as the wonder of new life!

So the lesson for me is... If I'm going to use the blue channel for tone adjustments (here I used a monochrome channel mixed mostly blue layer to darken the background), it's best to do noise reduction on it before using it... I'm not particularly happy with the nr on this final (nr after the fact rather than on the channel mixed layer)...

    Cheers,

    -Michael-
