I captured this portrait in very last light in the far northern Kruger National Park the other day. Just loved the light and clarity here.

    Techs:
    Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
    f5.6 @ 1/1000 SS @ ISO-4500

Like the light & colour on this one Morkel, with nice detail at such a high ISO, personally just unsure about the comp?

Perhaps, just not sure Morkel, just think it's a little too elongated?

    Just a thought, WDYT?

Morkel, lovely shot, you have mastered the high ISO on the D3s! I do agree with Steve on the crop and prefer his repost, unless you are using it for a cover and need copy space. Well done and TFS.

Wonderful light and detail.I agree with Steve and think that his reposting is better as there is too much dead space above the horn tips. A wonderful portrait though!! Can't wait to see what Nikon are bringing out in 1 month and 6 days time. Don' t quote me on Nikon rumors, please!!

Steve's crop improves an already great image. Love the way its antlers just fit right into that vertical crop.

The IQ you are achieving at these insane ISO's is simply incredible. I like the HA here, cool OOF BG, and agree, Steve's repost does look a touch better.

Thanks for the comments everyone and the crop suggestion Steve...I agree it looks a bit better - guess I had the 'magazine cover' in the back of my mind .

Here is a repost from my own file...
