    Default WADING THE MARSH

Taken today literally wading and kneeling in the marsh Ft DeSoto. Finally a great day with some great light and available birds. The Reddish Egret is always volunteering a photo shoot and never dissapoints. He had just finished resting and off to fishing again he went.
    Canon 1DMIII 300 mm 2.8 L IS lens w 1.4 X
ISO 320 f6.3@1/2000 (in hindsight I wished for more dof)
MInor adjustments to light and color
Rotated canvas a little and about 10% cropped
    C&C always Thanks

Nice pose & low angle shot. I wish for more room in the left.

Good bird, good action, good low angle, good exposure, good BG. Oh, and did I happen to mention that I think it's a good photograph? I don't understand your lamenting the lack of DOF.

Hey Craig. As I do love the dof here for the soft bg I usually like 7.1 with the 1.4 on. It seems to make the whole bird really sharp and I think my center point was on the body rather than the head so I felt it lacked sharpness. I was directed to a tutorial by Art on Rear focus and I am planning on reading it to learn more. I think it will solve my problem with the Al Servo mode and center dot focus problem. Thanks Art for posting these lessons for us.

YAW With the bird's head and neck angled away, the head and neck are not as sharp as they should be. I like the pose and your low perspective but the harsh light and the rather messy setting leave me convinced that this one is not your best.

Love the intense look on the bird as well as his wing feather fluff!
