    Default Painted Pelican!

Another Pelican from Monterey Bay whale watching trip... these brown pelicans were following us for the entire day in the hope of getting chum. This one was strategically pacing itself with the boat to see when we throw chum and dive for... sometimes their behavior seemed comical and I got some images with interesting wing positions. For processing, added canvas on left and bottom, applied topaz simplify and pb/oil, used masks to paint over and create this effect. Hope you like it...

I love, love, love this one. It needs just a bit more room in front. Did you use Pixel Bender or do it on your own? Either way I love the painterly look and the soft colors.

Thank you Artie. I used pb and then used a mask and paint with different opacity brush to lower the effect on the bg. Here is the repost with more room in front...

ps. I went out with Doug, Gail and Ted Cheeseman... trying to get used to any sea sickness prior to South Georgia trip Doug said hi...

Wow. Just a little bit more in front makes a huge difference compositionally! Well done BTW. You now have 2 1/2 times more room in front than behind; that is about the minimum. Where did you go with the Cheesemans? I do the big trip this DEC 30 with the dreaded Drake Passage on the way home... Wish me luck.

This was a whale, dolphin and pelagic bird watching trip off Monterey Bay on a fishing boat. Cheesemans organize this every September during Whale migration. It was all day and excellent one. Are you going to Antarctica this year too? I thought you were on for South Georgia next year on the same trip I signed-up.

Indranil, you nailed it on the repost. Like the effect from PB...the bands of color in the BG...did you see any whales on the trip? Any images? I'm enjoying the series of pelicans...keep them coming!

Indranil, You did a great job with the filtering. Nice pose and good advice already given. I think it's the softer color tones that make this so appealing.

Excellent repost, Indranil. For me, I wouldn't mind seeing just a tiny bit more push on the dark tones in the image to give it a small punch of contrast - but I'm a contrasty kind of person so take it or leave it...it's very beautiful as presented.
