I'm not sure how many ostriches are posted here on BPN...but here's my contribution.

Nothing special - just good light and a good angle. This was captured a few weeks ago when I was taking my new gear out for a test run to a local reserve.

    Techs:
    Nikon D3s with Nikkor 500mm f4 VR-II
    f4.0 @ 1/1250 SS @ ISO-800
This is just about full frame vertically shot
The red on his legs indicate that it is mating season...breeding colours...:)

Morkel, a great angle, and a great exposure in some nice light. You must have been pretty far away to fit the whole bird in the frame. I never realized how thick their legs are.

    Well done!

Thanks Aidan. Focusing distance according it EXIF says 37.8 meters which sounds about right as I remember it.

Like the vertical and the windswept feathers. I like the "model" pose ie one foot in front of the other. Great detail in the feathers. I would clone out the OOF grass in rlc.

Morkman, As above, well done. Even though the sky is on the plain side this needs a bit more room above.... In general I like 2-3 times more room above the bird than below.

Awesome bird, Morkel. I don't believe I've seen one of these posted since I've joined.
    Those legs look scary strong.
I'd move him to the right a bit and add more above.

Lovely IQ and textures..Head maybe bordering on over-sharpening. I would go with more room left and top.

Thanks for the honest feedback, gents...

I will go and have a look at the day's files to see if there's one with more room top and left, but there should be
