Hope I have the ID right. Not living near the shore I am still figuring out the IDs after the shot
Taken last Sunday morning on the CT coast. Flat down in the sand and rocks with a ground pod. In and out clouds, and no way to get on sun angle.
MarkIII, 700mm, AP, 1/1250, f8, ISO 500, FF with BB. Approx 80% of FF. At conversion I realized I underexposed about 2/3 a stop so I had to bring it up. Brushed over a couple dark spots in the waves to lighten them up. NR on background and sharpened.

    Thanks for taking a look.

Good eye contact Neil, and I like the detail and colours on him. Just enough space below for the 'virtual feet' and I feel this needs a touch of CCW rotation. Im looking at the lines above the bird. The legs also give a hint, although he could be leaning naturally forward.

    beautiful image indeed.
yeah a bit of CW rotation may add balance.

Pretty sharp image. What i feel is that if you can re process and just add sharpness to the bird and keep rest on soft (water) the High key values and little harshness around legs would not be visible.

Good job on the ID, excellent use of flash. Nice low angle and monochromatic feel to this image. +1 on the CCW rotation.
Nice and sharp, although I'd fix the jaggies along the bill base and the tail feathers.
    Lovely image.

I'm sure Stuart and Sidharth meant CW rotation (not CCW) which I agree with Excellent low angle (and subsequent more distant BG), and love the wavelets below the Whimbrel. Perfect subtle head turn.

Hey Neil, Nice hanging out the other day. Is this one that you got that morning? Looks great! I love the way the water looks. Nice low angle, head turn and sharpness.

    Thanks for all the input.

Yes I see now it does need some CW rotation

Denise, Yes I took this Sunday morning before we met up.
I had a good time, learned a few things, and will be on the lookout for shots other than birds! You do some great stuff with filters. Hope the slide show went well.
