    Default Lily Patterns

I've always been intrigued by patterns created by lily pads and lotus pads. While shooting last Saturday I came across a set of pads that interested me...but all of them were well past prime, with burn spots, small holes, etc. Took the image anyway; 100-400@220mm, f/22@1/6. RAW image processed minimally in LR and went straight to filters in PS; applied Topaz Clean, Fractalius, NIK Tonal Contrast, Topaz Simplify, all on different layers with varying degrees of opacity. Not sure why, but I liked it in the end! I'll be gone a few days...37 Seventh Grade Boys and I are going to camp! I'll miss you all.

Beautiful composition, John. Your processing has certainly brought life back in these leaves! The fract effect is very nice as is the effect of the other filters. Loving the colors... nicely done. We will miss you too... have a great time

John, I love the flow that this image has. The colors and slight glow are wonderful. Very well seen and processed. I might "reduce the white" line on the front edge if it were mine. Awesome!!

Denise and Indranil, thank you for your comments...Denise, I'm curious..when you are approaching such a thin line for adjustment (the thin white curve on the pad that you mention)...how do you approach it? With the clone brush at a lowered opacity? Do you make a selection and then do a curve for tone adjustment? Very thin areas like that have always been a challenge for me...

John, Yes I would use the clone brush at approx. 20%. I would set this up on a duplicate layer and then w/ a reduced opacity of the clone brush reduce the brighter tone. If I accidentally went over an area I didn't want touched I would simply add a mask to the top layer and reveal the area that I didn't intend the cloning.

I love this one. Image design is superb; you took great care and it is perfect. And the green, purple and blue go great together.

John, I love the colors and flow to this one. It looks like it is underwater with a slight ripple to the water. Beautifully done Oh, and have fun with the camping trip

Wow, what a creative idea! You know how I like lily pads and this one is outstanding! I have only tried Frac on one and I am inspired to try it on others.
