    Default Willet

I spent a few days in the sierras this summer and got to photograph a Willet in breeding plumage.
It was interesting for me to see how these birds, which I normally associate with coastal areas, can be
found in those high elevation valleys.
The background is a sage patch with some wildflowers and the mountains on the top.

Nice comp, background and weathered perch.
Would evict the dust spot at about an inch+ northwest of the beak.
Very interesting indeed to hear about them away from the coast at high elevations.

Doh! I completely missed that spot! Thanks for mentioning it.
I don't think it's a dust bunny though, but most likely an OOF bug since it doesn't show in other frames.

Thanks Ram. Here is the image without the spot and with more contrast and saturation.

Repost rocks. These birds are rather plain and I feel that a bit of color in the background is just what they need to make them look good. The pose is sweet.

Stunning portrait. Repost is much better. The BG does complement the willet perfectly. Wonderful comp and head angle.

    Luis:

Lovely soft background, nice pose, repost is an improvement.

I might consider toning down the brightest areas of the perch and also the plant next to it, just to keep our eyes more on the bird. Because it is not the most beautiful of perches, minimizing its impact in the image is a plus for me. Just some subtle changes in the luminosity should help significantly.

    Cheers

Great pose, beautiful sage BG. Repost really helps. I agree with Randy about a little off the bottom. On my screen the bird still looks a bit magenta, but when I check with Color Pic, the whites seem good, so it must be the bird's coloration. Well done.

Thanks Randy and Bill for your suggestions.
Bill, I think you are absolutely right about the color cast, but I think it's rather blue.
Here is the image with a little less blue. Unfortunately I am at work and don't have the tools to
    work on Randy's suggestion.

Lovely image Luis, Nice pose and bird with great BG. Like the small patch of OOF vegetation which blends in well with the overall image. Prefer the last repost .

Great head angle, beautiful background and subtle colours. The reposts took care of my initial impressions of contrast and saturation. Good work!
