After spending at week at Alaska Homestead Lodge at Silver Salmon Creek, you get to not only photograph bears but observe and learn their behaviors. This hardworking Bear seemed to be taking a well deserved break after entertaining a large photo tour from Norway. After photographing them clamming, fishing, climbing trees, running, fighting and more, it was actually quite special seeing the bear sit back and relax while watching intently as the next planeload of photographers circles to land on the beach at Silver Salmon Creek.

Thanks...I was not satisfied with the background and have tried a few things on copies with mixed results...plan to work more on it as much as anything to learn the technique. Part of the images this day was to see how the 5d and 7d compared on noise. which is why this was shot at ISO 1250 which I would never do on the 7d.

Hi Steve, Lovely detail and IQ on the bear. Also like the pebbled foreground. Was this early morning ?

Thanks Pieter, I liked this shot mainly due to both the peace and curious stare the bear seemed to have after working so hard all morning trying to catch fish. looks like this was around 8:30 am which is about the time some of the flights start moving in and out. We had rain and overcast for the day before and this day it was just beginning to lift to give us sunny days for the rest of our stay....have not made it to those images yet.

Love the light and pose, Steve. Nice texture to the fur and FG rocks, beautifully composed. Well done!

Steve - A different pose. The comp works well and I like the touch of color in the bg.
