    Default EGRET ON BLACK 2

This image is part of a series I created after capturing my Elegance and Grace image of the egret on black. This series was created believe it or not mostly thru in camera technique by locking my meter on the whitest white creating a dark bg. I then went in and burned all the bg area to black and then with curves I selected the darkest black point to even it all out and brightened my whites. Sharpening and color saturation used back when I had elements 7.0 I used no "layer technique" and am a little embarressed to say i still don't know how to work with layers although I do want to learn. I think I created about 6 or so of different poses shot at different times but all from the same local rookery near my house. I am sad to say that we no longer are permitted to shoot there as it is on private property or so they say so these images are pretty special to me. As much as I hated the noise created with the 40 D the sharpness of these images from that camera and my 300 mm L lens just blow me away, even with the 2X on it.

OOPs I forgot to mention thatI added canvas to throw off the centered bird.

    C&C always Thanks

    Cheryl:

The graphic quality here is very strong, elegant bird and pose, black BG works well here.

I tend to like darker images, so I do like this as posted. The whites could go a bit brighter however, and you might try a version that way.

The side lighting is very effective at creating texture and shadow detail.

In a perfect world, would prefer the portion of the perch overlapping the body to not be there.

Might consider small crop down from top.

I like this one a lot, lots of impact.

    Cheers

I hesitated about the crop part yet agreed about the whites. I was thinking the crop would center the bird but I tried it and I think the little I took off was an improvement.I then selected the black out and lightened all of the subject matter. I think I prefer it to the original.WDYT? Thanks everyone else for the input

Hi Cheryl , lovely creative image. Prefer the original crop and lighter repost. Good detail in the whites and love the texture of the trailing feathers. Well done.
