Taken at Conneaut Ohio on last Tuesday.
This bird was the main reason I went there as I haven't photographed one since 2004.
    Cloudy, windy condition.
    Thanks for looking.

Very, very nice. I like the cool palette of grays and whites. This is the first time I've noticed that avocets have blue legs! Great feather details and the head angle and ruffled feathers add an interesting element.

Beautiful look-back pose, nice feather detail, and I like the scalloped water pattern. It almost looks to me as if he's falling forward, but I assume he's leaning into the wind. Nice placement in the frame.

You could not have done much better other than to point the lens a bit more to our left. Love the soft light and the fluffed up back feathers.

Karl - great shot for all the reasons mentioned. I really like the "understated" lighting and that look-back pose.

very nice Karl, looks like they are in winter plumage already over there. Preening adds more interest

Really nice Karl. I would love a shot at these in breeding plumage. I like the movement of the water and had to stop looking cause I was getting sea sick

Excellent - I saw my first one of these birds this past weekend but wasn't able to get a shot. This gives me something to aim for!

Fantastic detail and a great preening pose. The blue legs really pop. I feel as if it could take just a hint of cw rotation. Even if it is level I think that would give the bird a bit more stable feel to the viewer. I think I see a bit of magenta cast.

Excellent shot. Great pose, wonderful detail, and the turbulent water really add to this image. Well done.
