Default Bateleur Eagle ( juvi ) with kill

Another from my series of last year, with a good pose from the Bateleur standing proud next to the hare. As mentioned before, although I was one of the first vehicles there, Im not sure if the bateleur had killed the hare, or it was road kill. Only the eyes had been eaten, so I dont think it was road kill, as most of the hare was still intact. Taken early morning in overcast conditions in the Kruger National Park. Not much I could do about the road surface.

I see you are not sure if this was road kill, but still a good capture of the scene as presented, regards.

The Eagle looks nice and the scene and it gives you a sense of their behavior.

Excellent detail, I never knew the eagle had a green bill. I am afriad I don't understand your point regarding road kill or otherwise (??)

WOW! I love the IQ and the detail of the eagle. Oh, to have been able to move this scene off the road would have made this shot a contest winner for sure. The delicate blood vessels in the paper thin ears of the rabbit next to the eagles powerful talons really add a ying/ yang element to this shot. I too, had no idea the bill was green.
    A great shot

Nice detailed image Stuart! You take them where you can get them sometimes.

Yes to all the positives above. Did you think of moving well to your right while staying on the road???? If that had been possible it seems that you could have made an image with an all road BKGR that showed the ears of the hare....

Stunning IQ and perfect DOF, Stu.
Love the blood on the beak and the superb details through out.
You get about fifty times more out of the 50D than I could with any gear.

Thanks Artie. I have posted a different angle previously with the hare parallel to me, but I didnt think of moving to my right. When one comes across a scene like this, all you think of is turning your car engine off, and getting off as many shots as possible, before the subject decides to fly off. I was lucky in this that he didnt, but it doesnt take long for other vehicles to arrive and you are hemmed in for a while.

Thanks to everyone else for the kind words.

YAW. Here's my take on it: I always go for the very best image even if it means not getting a single image... You could say it this way, "BBB potential of bust." That's why I am out there, to try and produce those very special images..... I realize that others would rather "get something." Not me
