This is an Osprey from Santee Cooper Reservoir in South Carolina. There are 3 or 4 chicks in the nest but they are laying down flat and holding themselves motionless. Their plumage is a close match to the nesting material which makes them less visible to predators when the parents are away foraging for fish.

I really like this one Joel. Seeing the chicks motionless to hide is incredible. John will love this. What a great moment, wish I was there,..well thanks to you I am. Great theme shot and the habitat is lovely. Well done and thanks for posting.

Hi Joel, great image for the theme - thanks for posting! You really captured the essence of concealment by pattern and coloration here, very nice. Did you do some cloning between the two trees on the right? There seems to be some pattern duplication there.
