Photographed in the Kruger National Park, South Africa, February 2010.

The background is a tad busy but I don't think it detracts from this lovely specimen.

Its a very nice shot, I wonder if it is a little bright? Here is an alternative, I reduced the brightest part in curves and added a little Selective Colour to the Blacks>Black.
    What do you think?

    Morkel:

Magnificent bird, like the comp., talons.

My first impression before I read Jonathan's comments were exactly the same, a little bright and a little flat. I feel the repost is an improvement. I don't know the bird, so perhaps not accurate, but just from a pure image standpoint, I like the change.

    Look forward to more!

    Cheers

I love the repost! What a gorgeous bird. I like the vertical comp and am perfectly OK with the BG.

Great looking raptor species and a nice picture of it, Morkel.

My first impression as well was that the bird is beautiful but the light was a little harsh then I saw the repost and I like it less bright. It's nice how we can help eachother out here with an extra set of eyes. Gorgeous stare and a nice rugged perch too.

Excellent pose Mork, and this is really sharp showing good feather detail. Overall, the colours are spot on, but agree the repost does look a touch better. Maybe taken in harsh light.

Thanks for the feedback folks, and the repost Jonathan...

I had already darkened the image considerably, and I think it would probably look best midway between my OP and your repost. This was taken at about 4pm which is the beginning of late afternoon light in Africa (akin to about 9AM in the morning) so light wasn't that harsh, but then again the African sun is harsher than most
