Hello BPN members, my name is Emily and I have been a long-time viewer but am only just now getting up the nerve to start posting! I am new to the bird photography world though I have enjoyed photography as a hobby since I bought my first film camera in high-school. I made the switch to digital 2 years ago. After a long battle with a stubborn cardinal who lived in the tree outside my window (and who didn't want to pose for pictures!) I've been bitten by the bird photography bug I'm about to participate in my second bird workshop in Botswana with great friend (and fellow BPN member) and am hoping to learn more through that experience and through this site. I have already learned so much by looking at your photos and reading the critiques. I figure it's time to go to the next level and get your input on my own photos!
I shoot with a Nikon d7000 and my favorite lens is my 300 f4 + 1.4 teleconveter. I'm currently saving up for something longer...maybe someday!
Emily, as someone just across the river from you (St. Charles), let me be the first to welcome you...and assure you that the decision to start was a good one! Like you, I hesitated for a long time...you can learn so much from the folks here, you'll wish you had joined sooner. Good luck with your trip to Botswana..can't wait to see some of your images!
Welcome. Have a great time in Africa and come back and share. With whom are you going?

Thank you all so much for your welcomes! I've already been learning so much. I simply can't wait until my trip to Africa with Gail. Artie - we will tell Chris hi for you and definitely watch out for those hippos :-) Hopefully I'll get home with a few presentable images!
