I'm undecided on this image but others have liked it, so I thought I would get opinions here. I saw this bird dive as I was walking from shooting and I just ran through the weeds to get some shots. Bad angle on the light, but does seem to work. I had been shooting in manual mode and just shot with the settings in the camera, would have liked to been at a faster shutter speed, but no time to adjust.
And for Kerry, while they're not rare here, it's very rare to get close to them.
Nikon D3s, 600 f/4 @ f/10, 1.4 TC, 1/640, ISO 850, slight crop from the bottom and removed a rock in the upper left side.

Hi Fred, you got a great moment captured here - super action! Nice detail, color rendition, and composition. I only wish the light was on the front of the bird and not from the back, would make this image much stronger. I would try lightening those dark areas in PS. Glad you were able to get close enough to catch the action!

Great moment but light angle hurts. I still find these shots interesting, wish the shadows on the head and eye were not there. I agree with the faster shutter speed issue too given the focal length but as mentioned the light is the issue. Thanks for posting, this must have been a great moment to witness.

Thanks guys, I agree with everything you've stated. I was going to delete this photo, but my wife convinced me to keep it and upload it to my Flickr account. Was surprised when it made Explore on Flickr and couldn't figure out why, other than the fact that it is Flickr after all. Your comments at least eases my thoughts that I am headed in the right direction in evaluating photos and not crazy after all.

    Fred,

Thanks for the comments and you did find some great action. That is important too. I spent the day looking for something to photograph and came up empty. Finding action like this is not easy (believe me), keep em coming.
