I had difficulty deciding on the comp for this. I was tempted to go for a vertical crop but I like the lines of the flower and branches on the right. WWYD? I find that I am liking a colorful BG these days.

I like your choice of keeping the angled stalk on the right. I like the colors and the prefect head angle for a preening shot. I'd take 1/2 to 3/4 inch off the left for balance and tone down the three or four brightest white rocks.

Let me know if you wish me to change the title to "Preening juvenile Semipalmated Sandpiper in Habitat."

Looks great to me, the only things that bother me are the two white stones to the right of the bird.

Gail, agree with Artie. very good sharpness and pose. the BG is cluttered but yet somewhat blurred so it works for me.

    hi Artie,
Put on my dunce cap and give me a D-!Please fix my title with thanks. If you ever get a chance, take a look at my introduce yourself post. In my post, I explain how I almost failed ornithology in my 4th year at Acadia! The only thing I could consistently identify were blue jays and chickadees. I thought I would go mad trying to identify shorebirds and I am still having trouble today.

No problema and done Gail. If I had said it once, I have said it a 1,000 times. Get yourself a copy of my Shorebirds; Beautiful Beachcombers and you will be ageing and identifying them all with ease in short order, but only if you study a bit.

Love the way it is presented, Gail.
I don't mind any part of the for- and background showing.
I usually clone out the garbage, (coffee cups and the like) but leave the pebbles and vegetation.

I love the warm colours in the BG Gail. I like the composition too and it works I think partly because the bird has its bill tucked in rather than pointing to the left. I think the image could use a little brightening on my calibrated monitor.
