Wish the head was a little more toward the camera, but was curious
about how much of the clutter on the beach is a distraction and
whether it should all be retained.

    good details of the bird.
however, i feel there's harsh light. and regarding the clutters, it might be a good idea to clone them out IMHO.

very nice shot, I might suggest cloning out the clutter in the front right foreground, but everything else looks very good, nice image considering the harsh light.

A nice image, Jack. Agree about the head angle and the harsh light. If this was mine, I would remove the out-of-focus shells in the lower right and the 2 OOF smaller white shells just to the right of your name. I would leave most of the rest, but might clone out a few of the small white spots here and there.

Nice image in a difficult light situation, The foreground could be cropped off for the distractions if you are not comfortable with cloning them.

Another good job of critiquing above but nothing can repair the harsh light or the poor head angle... Also, getting lower would have been a good idea.
