Greetings
After looking over this wonderful web site, I must confess to being just a bit intimidated by the skill and talent that is on display here. I'm a 62 year old education professor who, for the past 5 years, has been spending an increasing amount of time photographing birds with extremely modest equipment. Now, I am contemplating a full upgrade to a Canon digital SLR this year. I am looking forward to learning from these forums and applying it to my modest efforts.

Welcome to BPN. No reason to be intimidated. We are all in some kind of learning process. Maybe you want to start posting some pictures in eager to learn. The more you post and critique, the more quickly you'll learn. Looking forward to seeing some of your pictures. If you have any questions about purchasing a Canon system, be sure to ask them in the gear forum, and I am sure you'll have a lot of people helping you out.
