Shreeni, You forgot to turn your camera on end to create a vertical :) Tall skinny birds need to be in vertical frames. The WHITEs are grayed.... Could use a bit more head turn towards us. Sharp, and a very cool bird. Our birds do not have anywhere that much orange about the head.

I would suggest both ABP II and Digital Basics if you want to reduce the learning curve. You can find both here.

Thank you Artie. I have the ABP-II CD which I bought used from another forum which was my first step and then I very recently got the DB & 7D user guide from you. The highlight recovery tip in DB is what created this The bird was actually hiding behind an Open Billed Stork which I was trying to get but the paddle sound alerted this one and it just stood right into the frame with the legs firmly entrenched in the tree branches. I hired the boat guide for another round to see them but both had retired for the day

I have a lot to learn and will keep all these in mind whenever I get a chance to shoot these wonderful creatures.

Wow, what plumage colors on this cattle egret. I agree with Artie, the vertical comp would have included it's feet. I also agree on the whites, the bird does pop against the green foliage though.

Shreeni, Buying a used CD is not really too cool :). Whomever "sold" it surely had several copies on their computer (s).... As far as the greyed out WHITEs that is not something that we teach in DB. :) Yes to more studying!
