This little 3 week old chick ate 3x in a period of about 2 hrs. He had his head so far down the adult's pouch, you could barely see his neck never mind his head. I chose this picture b/c you could still see eyes of both birds, and I liked the up wing position. After watching these birds, it just made me that much more in awe of nature. I've been smiling ever since.

    Shot handheld with Canon 30D, 300 F4L @ F7.1, 1/6000s, ISO 400.

Would love to receive C & C. Thank you for looking. Marina

Marina this is a nice behavioural image. I've never seen young pelicans. I'm viewing this on my work monitor so I may be wrong but the focus doesn't seem to be sharp on the birds but rather on some of the leaves just behind them. Perhaps some selective sharpening on the heads may help.

Hi Marina Great behavior captured !!!

For these I would suggest stopping down for more dof It is critical to have both birds with sharp eyes Also the head angles applies to this images which makes them even harder This is close.

Not sure what is going on but the feathers look very flat You did get good whites on the parents head !!! Might go back to the RAW file and work it again If you post will give it a try !!!

Love the pose and behavior. I would play with the colors and contrast to make your subjects pop even more.

This is a terrific action photograph.

    Thank you for sharing!

Interesting behavior and I do like the chick's raised wings but the image has many serious problems some of which have been touched upon, but no one mentioned the framing... The chick's butt and belly are either too close to or are cut off by the frame edges. At the very least, you needed to take one big step back to give the tail some room in the frame and to at least cut one of the leg joints in half rather then clip the belly. Cutting is better than clipping... Not much you could do about the two poor head angles. Next time you go bring or borrow a zoom lens.

Is this the island that you see on the left when approaching the 7-11 on the way to DeSoto?

IAC, did you go by boat?

    Later and love, artie

Hey Artie: Sorry I only now realized you asked me questions to which I didn't respond. No, this is not anywhere near Ft. DeSoto. It's near my girlfriend's back yard and I go either by boat or kayak. Marina
