    Default The Bull's Eye

Back from a few days up north. The weather wasn't very cooperative, but made my way over to a nearby wetland for lots of fresh Bullfrogs images. Here is one I couldn't resist running through Fractalius. Used my Nikon 6T close-up filter on my 105mm macro to get this close.

    Look forward to comments.

Welcome back, Andrew. Hope you had a great trip. This is such an unusual perspective..and it must have been an unusually cooperative subject! My only suggestion..I wish there was something..a catch light, some shadowing, something..in that vast expanse of black...and I wish the eye might have been just a bit further to the right in the frame, with more of the skin folds in front showing...but that's a matter of personal preference. Wonderful colors, great texture, good job of processing!

The filtering looks great Andrew! I agree with John's comments about having something in the eye and a bit more on the left, but it's very nice as is.

Thanks Judy and John....wasn't that great dropped my 12-24mm into a beaver pond jumped in to rescue it before too much water leaked into the pouch to damage the lens and then back at the cottage proceeded to make a rather large gash in the tip of my shutter finger. Ouch! Actually I evicted the catch light in the eye from the flash as I dislike rectanglular catch lights, but I could always add a more natural looking catch light. I also have a few other versions with the eye further to the right, but didn't really like the frogs ear drum in the image, but I may try one of them anyway to see what folks think.

OUCH! On both accounts...I hope the 12-24 survived, and I hope the finger heals quickly..and I hope the rest of the week improves for you!

Andrew, I saw Denise's comment and went to see your blog...you have some impressive work there, some of which I'd seen and some that were new to me..."Devil's Punch Bowl" was a stunning image. Added to my favorite's list!

Very cool super close-up comp and your frac treatment works well to bring out the structure and texture of the eye. Good suggestions from John, and I was thinking that you could also try inserting an image of a another frog into that big pupil area just for fun. Have to check out your blog!
