    Default BACKLIT DOE WITH BUGS

I was about to delete this as a rather routine deer image, but, changed my mind when I noticed the backlit bugs. I also like the layered bg. Taken just before sunset, D3s, Nikkor 600mm, f5.6, 1/100, iso 800, bean bag on truck door and one quart of DEET. PS levels and usm with minor crop off the bottom and right side. I'd like to take some off the top, but thats where the good bugs are. C & C appreciated.

    Gary,

I like this shot, it is original and the habitat is great. Subject placement is fine in LRHC - very nice. The layers of grass are very colorful and blend well with the subject. I like the wild flowers and out-of-focus points of light (bokeh) as complementary elements. Just a great moment in nature. I will be interested to hear what others say about the backlit /side lit face, I can see adding light or leaving it as is. It seem fine to me and adds some tone and purpose to the picture. I was thinking the virtual feet were short but you have enough on the bottom. Can't wait to hear from others. Glad you made the post, this tells a story and captures the beauty of nature,..not bad for a shot about to be deleted (smile).

Also like this. Backlighting works well due to the impact it has on adding atmosphere & highlighting elements of the BG. I do feel like the composition would feel just a bit better if there as a bit more space at the bottom. Agree that you shouldn't take any more off the top, though, as you'd lose some of the "best" bugs and a layer of BG. Definitely a keeper IMO

I like it. The backlit head and neck...especially the whiskers...gives a nice, early morning effect.

This is something different and I like it very much, the backlit bugs really did it for me, glad you didn't delete this image. I also like the layer in the background created by grass and flowers as well. Personally I prefer a bit more room at the bottom.

Sweet image Gary! Thanks for keeping it and sharing it here. I love the layers of both color and texture. The composition works fine for me. The look back pose is great and it makes for a nice lighting effect along the neck and head. Well done!
