I really enjoyed watching these guys very actively using their tail feathers as a rudder & brake while negotiating gusty winds.

    Canon 50d
    100-400mm @ 400mm
    Manual exposure f.5,6 & 1/1000
    ISO 800

This is about 70% of the original's size, I rotated CW a bit (perhaps need a bit more?), plus the usual exposure adjustments, sharpening etc

Love the lighting on the subject, light shadows showing texture, very nice. I also find the flight position unique with dropped feet, rudder-tail and wings open. I would like to see more BG, a bit tight IMO, but that's me. Wonder how it looks with less crop and more background. Assume this was overcast or reduced light, nice field techniques to bump the ISO.

Hi Gordon, really nice flight capture with an extra bonus of dangling feet. Does seem a bit tight to me but not much. Good exposure and detail and whites well in control. Good one!

I agree, wonderful position. Sharpness and exposure look spot on. Maybe crop just a little from the top and add to the bottom? Really well done.
