Here's a flyby skimmer from the Jersey shore. mk IV, 500 f4, 1.4x III, iso 500, 1/2000, f7.1 shot in manual from gitzo/wimberley. I removed an oof far wing from between the top of neck and far wing.

I'm impressed. This is a fantastic head shot of a flying bird! Great details and great lighting and such a perfect view of that amazingly unique bill. Very well done!

I too am curious about how much of a crop this is. Exposure good, comp good too. Not crazy about the square catchlight...was it added or modified in post?

    Nice portrait shot.
I see a white halo where the top of the head meets the background.
It is usually is the result of sharpening.
Would be very easy to remove it.

Good detail and colours on the skimmer's bill, and you have also exposed this nicely. Another vote for taking a look at the 'square' catchlight.

Thanks for all of the comments. The catchlight was modified, and when doing so with the white pencil tool. it filled pixel squares completely for some reason. I inquired about adding/modifying catchlight in the eye before with no response ? I reworked the catchlight and used some gaussian blur in BGD to help remove halo mentioned earlier. I'm not sure of a better method for doing this.

oops, here's the original jpeg converted from RAW to show how much crop. I was not even close to the center point AF, but the surrounding assists must have kept it in focus.

Terrific head detail for a flight shot. Congrats. Catchlight and halo better in repost, but catchlight, while no longer square, still looks a bit bright. Remaining halo could be mitigated by using a low opacity clone tool on a background-only layer, if so desired. In any event, it's a wonderful capture.
